Big Star Lake is a 912-acre all-sports lake located in Lake Township, MI. It is less than 20 minutes away from the county’s seat, Baldwin, MI, and around 4 hours northwest of Detroit, MI. The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is an hour and a half south in Grand Rapids, MI, and Spectrum Health-Reed City is a little over 30 minutes east in Reed City, MI.

What’s There to Do On the Water?

Big Star possesses excellent water quality, which translates to great fishing! Anglers can expect to find black crappie, muskies, yellow perch, bluegill, northern pike, largemouth bass, and walleye. There is a boat launch off of Kater Court for access to this fun-filled lake. Water sports are popular on this lake, so activities like boating, water skiing, swimming, tubing, kayaking, and wakeboarding are waiting for you!

Year-Round Activities

Around July 4th every year, there is a firework show that takes place for residents to enjoy. There is a free band concert that takes place in July as well! A band sets up on the shore for residents to travel to by boat and listen to. Later in the fall, a fishing contest for all ages and experience levels is open to residents.

What’s Near Big Star Lake?

Less than an hour away is Silver Lake State Park. This 3000-acre state park offers dune ridges to race on in the 500-acre offroad vehicle area, a campground. All of this on the shore of Lake Michigan! When you get hungry, try nearby restaurants in Baldwin like Northern Exposure Cafe, Pompeii’s, Jones’ Homemade Ice Cream Parlor, and Barski. Big Star Lake also offers three golf courses, four marinas, and three nearby campgrounds on the lake.
